Updated: Aug 6, 2019

Andriod App Development

Since the day Apple has thrown hints about iOS 13 features at WWDC 2019, all the iOS users and developers have gone mesmerized. They have found something fresh to prove that Apple’s iOS is better than Android - both in terms of innovations and efficiency.

But, is this true?

In the mobile economy, where both the tech giants - Apple and Google - are constantly competing with each other to become the No. 1 choice of all the smartphone users, there are various instances when they find out of ideas.

In such a scenario, both of them turn towards each other to get some inspirations or determine what factor can make their users feel delighted.

While we have already covered Android features that are inspired from iOS in an article, titled: 9 Features that Android Borrowed from Apple’s iOS - we will discuss about the converse situation in this article.

Or better say, we will dig deeper into the mobile market and list down the Apple’s iOS features that are inspired from Android in this article.

So, here we begin.

8 Features that Entered Android Platform Before Hitting iOS

1.Look Around

Apple has recently announced the introduction of ‘Look Around’ feature in their devices. This feature, using the data and real-life 3D images of streets gathered by employing Camera-fitted cars, will help users to get more clear, detailed and useful information on Map. Also, it will enable users to take a virtual tour to different places and streets - something that is already possible with Street View mode of Google Maps since 2007.

2.Swipe Keyboard

Also called ‘Swype Keyboard’, this feature will give you an opportunity to swipe up your fingers over the keyboard rather than typing for all the text-related tasks. It will enhance the user experience on iOS 13 and iPadOS 13, just like what it did in the cases of Android.

3.Sign In with Apple

This Apple feature will empower users to log in third party applications without creating another particular account and take an advantage of ample of privacy features - something that is already possible via Google’s ‘Sign In with Google’.

4.Dark Mode

Dark mode is also one of the top Android Q features that has been recently acquired by Apple. It aids users to enjoy system-wide darkness throughout the OS and protect your eyes from strain.

5.USB Support

In 2019, Apple is also showing green signal to the possibility of USB support in their iOS devices. That implies, they are giving users an opportunity to plug in thumb drives and hard drives, use them, and plug out whenever you want.

This is again something that Android has always been boasting about.

6.Widgets on Home Screen

The widget feature that look and feel great on iOS and iPadOS, is yet another feature that has landed on Android first. This feature will turn the boring home screen experience to an interesting one.

7.Women Health Tracking

Apple has also shown their concern towards female health and proposed the idea of introducing ‘female menstruation cycle tracker’ feature in their Health application. No doubt this is a commendable effort by Apple, it is again something that is already possible on Google’s Android platform.

8.Desktop Browsing

At long last, the Safari browser on the iPad will no longer default to the mobile version of websites. Apple has finally realized that iPad users deserve the same internet experience that you get on the Mac, so it’s opening up the full desktop version of Safari in iPadOS. However, anyone who’s used a Chrome tablet will just snicker since they’ve had a full browser all along.

So, these were some of the iOS 13 top features that are inspired/borrowed from Google’s Android. If you have noticed any other feature that gives a feel of being already existing on Android, do let me know via the comment section below.
